The movie is based on the stories published by DC Comics Action adventure movie Green Lantern, based on the comic books of the same name, has topped the UK and Ireland box office.The movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds as a reluctant superhero, took ?2.4m in its opening weekend, knocking Kung Fu Panda 2 off the top spot.
Despite some negative reviews, the film also topped the US box office.
Cameron Diaz's film Bad Teacher debuted at number three, followed by The Hangover Part II.
X Men: First Class rounded off this week's top five most watched films.
In sixth place was Johnny Depp's Pirates Of The Caribbean: Stranger Tides and at number seven was Senna - a documentary about the late Brazilian F1 racing champion Ayrton Senna.
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid fell two places to number eight, with new release Potiche, starring Catherine Deneuve, in ninth place.
Dance sequel Honey 2 closed out the top ten.
