1640: FOOTBALL - Scotland striker Kris Boyd has signed a three-year contract with Turkish club Eskisehirspor after leaving Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee, reports BBC Scotland's Jonathan Sutherland.

1639: BASKETBALL - LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant could be playing in Europe this autumn, according to the Talkbasket website. The NBA is currently in the middle of a "lockout", with players and owners unable to agree labour terms, so top players are looking elsewhere to stay in shape and Turkish side Besiktas are one side on the lookout.

1631: FOOTBALL - Sky Sports report that Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has picked up an injury in pre-season training. Statement expected at 1700 BST.

1626: MOTORCYCLING - Spanish rider Carlos Checa fastest in first qualifying for the World Superbike round in Brno this weekend.

1610: GOLF - Still no play at the Scottish Open, with 5pm being suggested as a possible start time. Graeme McDowell is confident of some low scores over the weekend and says: "There's no doubt someone could break 60 - Someone could go ridiculously low."

1605: DISABILITY SPORT: Britain's Susie Rodgers wins her third individual gold - and her fifth medal in all - at the IPC European Swimming Championships in Berlin. The Londoner, in her first major championship, wins the S7 50m butterfly in a new European record of 36.74. You can hear coverage from Berlin on 5 Live Sports Extra from 1635 BST.

1555: CYCLING - Update from the Tour, speed starting to pick up to about 50kph as the riders stream through those sunflower fields so favoured by the photographers. Still a decent gap between the peloton and the four-man breakaway group of Perez Urtasun (EUS), Mickael Delage (FDJ), Gianni Meersman (FDJ) and Yannick Talabardon (SAU). Mark Cavendish came into this as the probable favourite. Just over 50km to go.

1553: FOOTBALL - QPR defender Danny Shittu has signed a new one-year contract to stay at Loftus Road.

1551: TENNIS - Great Britain's Davis Cup tie with Luxembourg is about to get underway in Glasgow and you can follow the live action on the official website. Andy Murray is in action later on this evening.

1537: CRICKET - Sussex batsman Murray Goodwin is handed a one-match ban and ordered to pay ?500 costs by the ECB following two counts of dissent against an umpire's decision in the past month.

1533: FOOTBALL - Sky sports.com understands Blackpool are eyeing moves for Liverpool duo Tom Ince and Gerardo Bruna.

1530: OLYMPICS - Associate Press report that the IOC will enforce a "no needle" policy for the 2012 London Olympics that bars athletes from possessing syringes and other medical equipment that could be used for doping.

1522: DISABILITY SPORT - GOLD for Britain's Heather Frederiksen in the S8 100m freestyle at the IPC European Swimming Championships in Berlin - her third gold of the championships. Team-mate Emma Hollis wins bronze.

1520: CYCLING - Calm before the storm on stage seven [which is a 218km route from Le Mans to Chateauroux] at the moment. Less than 80km to go. Riders concerned about wind direction. Fabian Cancellara one of many peering into their team cars to talk tactics. Yesterday's stage marked Team Sky's first stage victory in the Tour de France, courtesy of Norway's Edvald Boasson Hagen.

1517: RUGBY LEAGUE - Crusaders utility back Jordan Tansey has issued a public apology on behalf of the seven players who were suspended on Friday by the Super League club for a breach of discipline. "I would like to say on behalf of all of the players who have been suspended, how sorry we are for our behaviour," Tansey said.

1515: GOLF - Play at the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart is suspended because of the threat of lightning.

1508: DISABILITY SPORT - It's day six of the IPC Swimming European Championships in Berlin with Great Britain hoping for another successful day in the pool. The session starts at 1500 but coverage starts on 5 Live Sports Extra at 1635 with commentary from Chris Mitchell and Karen Pickering.

Among the swimmers to watch are Matt Walker (S7 50m butterfly - 1555 BST), Susie Rodgers (S7 50m butterfly - 1559), Stephanie Millward, Louise Watkin and Lauren Steadman (S9 100m backstroke - 1715) and Anthony Stephens (S5 100m freestyle - 1821)

1503: FOOTBALL - West Ham have asked the Italian Football Federation to suspend their former striker Alessandro Diamanti's registration with Brescia.

1455: GOLF - Welshman Phillip Price's first competitive hole-in-one at the Scottish Open has earned him an unusual prize - 168 bottles of champagne. Scott Jamieson, Graeme McDowell and Peter Whiteford share the lead on 11 under par.

1450: ROWING - The third World Cup of the season takes place this weekend, with the finals live on the BBC website (UK only) and Red Button on Sunday. Katherine Grainger, Britain's top female rower, won her heat of the double sculls with partner Anna Watkins earlier. The duo were unbeaten last year but Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave says they should expect their opponents to close the gap as London 2012 approaches. Can Grainger keep on pace to win her first Olympic gold, after taking silver in three successive Games?

1445: FORMULA 1 - Ferrari's Felipe Massa came out late to set the best lap in second practice for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. He set a time of one minute 49.967 seconds - more than three-quarters of a second faster than second-placed Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes. Kamui Kobayashi finished third.

Lewis Hamilton was fourth and his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button fifth. The Red Bulls of World Championship leader Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber were 18th and 14th respectively, although they only went out for a combined total of 10 laps in a rain-hit session.

1440: FOOTBALL - Liverpool defender John Flanagan has signed a new long-term contract at Anfield, reports the Press Association.

1425: FOOTBALL - Dutch police say they have launched a criminal investigation into a football stadium roof collapse that killed one construction worker and injured 15 others.

1420: BOXING - Recently retired Ricky Hatton still firmly believes that David Haye can unify the heavyweight division and has called on the former WBA world champion to postpone his retirement. "The decision is his but I think retirement is a bit too early for him," Hatton told Press Association Sport.

1412: FOOTBALL - Stoke defender Danny Higginbotham tells the club's official website he is hoping to be back in action by the end of September after making excellent progress from cruciate ligament surgery.

1409: CYCLING - Former world champion Tom Boonen has pulled out of the Tour de France during Friday's seventh stage after failing to recover from the injuries he sustained in Wednesday's crash.

1403: RUGBY LEAGUE - Castleford beat Friday's 1400 BST Engage Super League signing deadline to acquire the services of Wigan's 21-year-old prop Ben Davies.

1348: FOOTBALL - Down in League One, Charlton have signed Sheffield Wednesday defender Michael Morrison for an undisclosed fee.

1345: GOLF - Scottish Open update, Scotland's Peter Whiteford hits a second-round 66 to join Scott Mathieson and Graeme McDowell in a share of the early clubhouse lead at Castle Stuart. 1332: GOLF - Graeme McDowell after his round of 66 at the Scottish Open: "The course does not pose much of a challenge off the tee, but it's tricky around the greens and it gives you a test."

1316: CRICKET - Sky Sports report that Warwickshire off-spinner Maurice Holmes has been suspended from bowling in county cricket until a second independent analysis of his action.

1312: ATHLETICS - Sport and Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson tells Insidethegames plans to bid for the 2017 World Athletics Championships are in doubt because of the future of the Olympic Stadium. He says: "The fact is that everyone involved in athletics will understand why we cannot bid for World Championships again until we have an absolute lock-down secure venue."

1305: CYCLING - The leaders are through 60km of today's stage of the Tour, with the same four riders nearly seven minutes clear of the peloton. Follow live text commentary on the official Tour website.

1302: FOOTBALL - West Ham manager Sam Allardyce expects a busy month as he tells the London Evening Standard: "Unless there are four or five of the young players ready to come in, we probably need to sign eight from outside."

1248: FOOTBALL - BBC Radio 5 Live chief football reporter Ian Dennis reports: "Liverpool say they are still considering both options - redeveloping Anfield or moving to a new stadium. They wouldn't put a timescale on the decision and wouldn't say whether they have a 'preferred option' as yet. They may release a statement later today."
